Anonymous User Security Enhancement In Windows NT and Windows 2000, the operating system makes every user authenticated by the domain and all potential anonymous users members of the Everyone group because the Authenticated Users, the Anonymous Logon, and the Domain Guests groups are automatically made mem bers of the Everyone group. This membership is provided to allow anonymous users access to Active Directory objects. To provide stricter control of access to resources, you must remember to remove the Everyone group from the access control list for the resource. Because administrators often do not realize that anonymous users are mem bers of the Everyone group, these users might inadvertently be granted access to resources intended only for authenticated users. In Windows Server 2003, the Anonymous Logon group is no longer a member of the Everyone group. Therefore, anonymous users attempting to access resources hosted on computers running Windows Server 2003 will be impacted. If anonymous users must be granted access to resources, you must explicitly add the Anonymous Logon security group to the access control list for the resource and provide the required permissions. If anonymous users must always be granted access to resources, you can change the new Windows Server 2003 default security setting for the Everyone group by enabling the group policy Network Access: Let Everyone Permissions Apply To Anony mous Users, located at Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\ Local Policies\Security Options. As you can see, we very quickly get to a situation in which we re layering unrelated business logic across the system.

Use IAS if more than one remote access server is required. This means con sistent remote access policy application and improved accounting. Use packet filters on the remote access policy profile settings for the VPN connection to ensure that only traffic originating from remote access clients is accepted. The default remote access policy Connections To Microsoft Routing And Remote Access Server has these packet filters configured.

All stand-alone servers, member servers, and computers running Windows XP Profes sional have built-in local groups. Built-in local groups give users the rights to perform system tasks on a single computer, such as backing up and restoring files, changing the system time, and administering system resources. Windows Server 2003 places the built-in local groups into the Groups folder in the Local Users and Groups snap-in in the Computer Management console. Table 8-5 describes the capabilities that members of the most commonly used built-in local groups have. Except where noted, there are no initial members in these groups.

If an ISP s RADIUS database is used for authentication, use IAS proxy services to direct authorization choices to internal remote access services. This provides you with control over authorization.

In fact, there are a lot of design flaws: The getChannel() method is polluted with code that has nothing to do with the business logic of the method. Not only has the developer added seven lines of code to the method, but he has also made the code a bit harder to read. It is difficult to turn auditing off and on since you have to comment out the code and recompile the bean class. This auditing logic is obviously a template that could be reused across many methods of your application. If this code is littered throughout your EJB methods, you would need to potentially modify a lot of different classes to expand the functionality. Interceptors define a much cleaner separation for business logic that may run across many modules in your system. They provide a mechanism to encapsulate this business logic and an easy way to apply it to your methods without making the code harder to read. Interceptors provide a structure for this type of behavior so that it can easily be extended and expanded in one class. Finally, they provide a simple, configurable mechanism for applying their behavior wherever you like.
